It worked for me! I tried to open the "Software Update" panel to check any updates but it won't open, it shows a message saying "Cannot open the Software Updates panel", something to that effect. Anyway, go to http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html and download the winsock fix tool. Only worked well wireless with the power cord plugged in, setting the network adapter power save feature to off fixed it completely. http://ccm.net/forum/affich-27352-connects-to-wireless-but-can-t-browse

I tried method one and it worked !! One other slight issue - my Acer Netbook (running XP) can connect ok to my wireless access point if and only if I am using WEP as my encryption.
