To do this, right-click the removable drive’s partition, select Change Drive Letter and Paths, and add a drive letter. Using Acronis Disk Director , I simply had to reassign a drive letter to my hard disk partition, it will be detected by My Computer, with all data accessible too! I followed your advice step by step and lost all of the files on my external drive, only THEN to see the warning that this would happen. If that doesn't work, then firstly let us know whether the hard drives are listed in BIOS. So I figured, I know, download windows 10. I used zero assumption recovery. It also doesn't have the option to change drive letter and paths and/ornew simple volume upon right click.
Report ditch- Aug 8, 2010 at 08:41 AM cheers mate. If your external hard drive is more than 2TB it is probably formatted in GPT instead of standard MBR, which cannot be read by 32bit Operating Systems such as WIndows XP.
