  1. Are the modems lights on - Power, Status, Link/Act and Ethernet?
  2. Any other ideas?
  3. I can't connect directly to the modem as it is the basement.
  4. Then......Check all cables and connections are secure, in good condition and that they are plugged into the correct ports.
  5. On the other hand, the router claims to be, and must be in fact, actually connected to the wider internet, because the other laptop can get to the internet just fine.
  6. If the other computer can browse the Internet fine, then your computer is having issues.

Thought it was the router, but we reset in and my wife's laptop is working fine now, but I still can't get on the internet. This is where you just can't get connected. Spent countless hours figuring it out...
