I’ve copied from my wife’s computer the, an XP machine, the versions of msjet40.dll, system.mdw and wrkgadm.exe that are in her C:\Windows\System32 folder, to my own C:\Windows\System32 folder. Continued with the installation and Office appears to work. Any other ideas? My guess would be sound or printer - mail me offline and I will gather some information from you to help understand the issue.
