with Tam's situation, this gives you a starting point to trying to figure out what may be happening..... looked through the system32 files to edit. Following files should be in both of the dirs:COMPONENTS, DEFAULT, SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE and SYSTEMThere doesn't seem to be any bad sectors on the used harddrive, nor I could find any If you expect your HDD is physically damaged one way to start the CRC check is to go to the properties of your HDD and ask for a check.

after I set the correct date/time I was able to boot up with no delay (previously it took over 1 hour to get past the crcdisk.sys point). but thats what i did. A look at the machine once in showed up that it had an expired notron internet security loaded and a "mywebsearch" toolbar. other than I was then able to ctrl alt delete to pull up task manager and was able to manually go in and run the explorer so that my desktop would come up. For example, the last time I faced this problem, the time in BIOS was automatically corrupted/changed to a ridiculous date in 2025.
I decided I would try the startup repair and it completed the first time, however did not change my problem. You've as much as been told you have a HD problem.
