with Tam's situation, this gives you a starting point to trying to figure out what may be happening..... looked through the system32 files to edit. Following files should be in both of the dirs:COMPONENTS, DEFAULT, SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE and SYSTEMThere doesn't seem to be any bad sectors on the used harddrive, nor I could find any If you expect your HDD is physically damaged one way to start the CRC check is to go to the properties of your HDD and ask for a check.

after I set the correct date/time I was able to boot up with no delay (previously it took over 1 hour to get past the crcdisk.sys point). but thats what i did.   A look at the machine once in showed up that it had an expired notron internet security loaded and a "mywebsearch" toolbar.   other than I was then able to ctrl alt delete to pull up task manager and was able to manually go in and run the explorer so that my desktop would come up.
